My first images came out of a Kodak Instamatic that my parents bought me when I was 9, a very rudimentary object with only two positions, sun and shade. As a teenager I had a slight quality increase with the Olympus Pen F. But it wasn’t until the arrival of the Nikon FM2 that I fully entered the world of professional analog images. A first stage filled with excitement soon became in frustration, as my mind worked faster than what my hands and my knowledge could achieve. I asked myself if I would get the amazing images of those great nature photographers.

The path until now has been a long process of continuous learning, especially taking into account that digital images didn’t exist until some years later, making the photographic process much harder.

And it was in that predigital stage when the figure of the person who has been my inspiration, has guided my steps and that I have been deliberately trying to imitate emerged, Ricardo Vila. His photographic work is simply masterly, in times when obtaining an image wasn’t as easy as nowadays, where digital technology helps us at all times hugely facilitating the labour of today’s photographers. It is in this aspect, without taking away from current works, where the value of his photography is seen.

All of my photographs are part of a personal project, a challenge as my Mexican friend and photographer Juan Nava Steiner said: “interpreting nature without touching her, without transforming her and without faking her essence, learning from her everyday as a way of life. Appreciating her own spirit so that we can all take care of her together. Let each item be itself, let every living being have a place and respect, because respecting their existence is how one respects himself”
